Wellness Connect Program
The Wellness Connect Program was launched in Spring 2015 to connect BHA residents to health/nutrition benefits and services, build their knowledge of healthy living and eating, and reduce their social isolation through ample interaction with our team of volunteers.
Supervised by Community Engagement Language Access staff, the program is run by multilingual students and community volunteers. BHA has partnered with local organizations and city departments to offer wellness workshops and socialization opportunities for our residents. Wellness Connect is currently offered at Washington Manor, Hampton House, St. Botolph, Torre Unidad, Patricia White, and Ausonia housing developments. Thanks to funds given by Age Strong Commission, BHA plans to expand to other elderly sites. The majority of the resident participants in this program speak Chinese, Spanish, and languages other than English.
Scope of Wellness Connect Services:
- Information Sharing: Provide healthy living information to residents (nutrition, oral health, fall prevention, etc.) through multilingual workshops and group activities.
- Links to Resources: Help residents to access wellness services and programs, including the Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) to obtain affordable local fresh produce, and to free health screenings.
- Staying Connected: Promote resident interactions and reduce social isolation by hosting group conversations in community space, on topics such as aging well, demo use of smartphones and tablets, potting flowers and herbs, etc.
