Boston Housing Authority 2024 Accomplishments

The Boston Housing Authority made great strides in 2024 as we worked towards tackling the City's housing crisis, addressing quality of life issues for our residents, and advancing programs that open up opportunities for resident advancement and resident leadership.

BHA transitioned to a paperless work order system called Work Order Touch in order to more efficiently respond to resident needs and address quality of life issues.

BHA organized elections for a new Resident Advisory Board and for new Local Tenant Organizations at Doris Bunte, South Street, and St. Botolph Apartments. BHA launched two new youth programs at the Franklin Field Development. BHA committed funding to fully establish a BHA Youth Leadership Council.

The First Home Program assisted more than 50 families in their transition to homeownership. Another 56 families graduated from the Family Self-Sufficiency program, saving an average of $15,300. BHA also held digital literacy classes in nine Public Housing communities.

Utilizing HUD’s Restore Rebuild program to develop 3,000 new public housing units in Boston in the next 10 years. We also hosted the first Future of BHA event to engage 100+ residents and partners in our 2025-2029 Five Year Plan process.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As we look ahead to 2025, BHA is excited to start the year off by finalizing our 5 Year Plan 2025-2029. This plan will guide BHA’s work for the next five years and we are looking forward to growing together in the following areas:

  1. Leading with customer service
  2. Investing in high quality maintenance, management, and inspections
  3. Creating economic opportunity–job training, career ladders, wealth building–for BHA residents and staff
  4. Partnering with residents and community stakeholders to promote community safety
  5. Creating green and healthy communities
  6. Planning for long term financial sustainability
  7. Building new public housing
