General Description: ABOUT THE JOB: Under the direct supervision of the Police Duty Supervisor, the Radio Room Operator is responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls for service within BHA developments, determining the nature of the call and the needs of the caller and assigning the appropriate police, medical, fire or other emergency unit for response.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Receives calls for service from tenants on an emergency and non-emergency basis.
- Dispatches appropriate Police or other service units.
- Utilizes computers with CJIS, CHSB (LEAPS) and NCIC access to determine: active warrants, stolen motor vehicles, verify registrations of vehicles, conduct Board of Probation/ Parole record checks on suspects, arrestees and other individuals as requested by the appropriate police officer.
- Utilizes the computer system C.A.D (computer aided dispatcher) to issue officers complaint control reports numbers enter arrested suspects onto the appropriate screen and maintain dispatcher notes on all activities of the officers.
- Monitors Boston Police and area law enforcement dispatch transmissions to determine if crimes are being committed on BHA property.
- Coordinates field response between BHA police, Boston Police and other law enforcement or community/government partners using all available technology and resources
- Monitors and assists the BHA Senior Safety Division Officers in the BHA’s Elderly Developments.
- Assists tenants with maintenance problems.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience: Must be 19 years of age or older. Must have a high school diploma or GED, a certificate of higher education is preferred. Must be a citizen of the United States. Must read, write and speak the English language. Can not have any felony convictions. Candidates will be subjected to a full Board of Probation (BOP) review. Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, flexible shifts and extended tours of duty. Must successfully complete all dispatcher training and maintain certifications required to operate on the required systems or programs. Candidates must be able to be trusted with sensitive information. The ideal candidate must be able to work in a collaborative environment and be a willing participant in a team centered approach to service delivery. Candidates with knowledge and experience using computer systems and programs are desirable.
