This year, Gallivan resident Maria Isabel Morel is one of the latest BHA residents to graduate from Northeastern University after receiving a full-ride scholarship through the College of Professional Studies. A double major in Computer Science and Music Tech, Maria started volunteering with BHA in her freshman year. During her time with BHA she has helped Spanish speaking clients through the volunteer interpreters program, and worked on BHA's food access and distribution efforts.
This year, Maria received Northeastern’s Community Service Leadership award. Maria plans to travel after graduation.
The BHA is partnered with Northeastern University to offer a full-tuition scholarship to BHA Public Housing residents that are recent high-school graduates looking for a traditional undergraduate bachelor's degree program, or students of any age interested in a bachelor's completion program through the College of Professional Studies (CPS).
This scholarship has been a positive turning point in many BHA residents’ lives, and this year Maria was one of three BHA scholarship recipients to graduate with Northeastern University’s class of 2021.
Congratulations to Maria Morel, and also to our two other graduates Jonathan Mejia from South Street and RongRong Huang from Charslestown!
