Congratulations to the new Task Force members!
A tenant task force also known as a local tenant association or civic association is a group of tenant representatives elected by other tenants to represent them in official business with the Boston Housing Authority (BHA). As such, the Ausonia Apartments Task Force will represent the needs and concerns of the tenants living at the Ausonia development and speak or act on their behalf with the development manager, the BHA Administrator and other staff at the BHA. They will also help plan resident events and manage some funds available to task forces for resident capacity building, coffee hours, supplies, improvements to their community space, and other activities.
Historically, many task forces have helped in creating fair laws that prevent tenants from being evicted or from rent going up unreasonably. They help bring fun activities into the community such as coffee hours, B.B.Q in the summer, and trips to parks. They also help bring in important social and health services such as a food pantry, various elderly/services programs and summer health checkups.
Each BHA task force is governed by a set of bylaws and the BHA’s Tenant Participation Policy. See more information about BHA resident task forces. (https://www.bostonhousing.org/en/Center-for-Community-Engagement/Resident-Empowerment/LTO.aspx).
