Today at the Alice Taylor housing development, Mayor Martin Walsh met with program leaders and resident participants from Smart from the Start, a family support, community engagement and school readiness Program dedicated closing academic achievement gap among young children from low income families and communities. The program empowers parents and caregivers in underserved communities, and offers tools, resources and support to break cycles of chronic academic underachievement and generational poverty.
Mayor Walsh joined BHA Administrator Bill McGonagle and Smart from the Start Executive Director Cherie Craft to discuss the program's importance, and the impact it has on the families it serves.
