Mayor Martin J. Walsh hosted the 13th Annual Three Kings Day Luncheon Celebration. The Three Kings Day Celebration is a wonderful holiday tradition providing Latinos who work in various departments around the City the opportunity to celebrate their cultural heritage with each other and the Mayor.
"Boston is proud of its diversity, and our Latino community is a major part of that," said Mayor Walsh.
"This is a special time for our Latin community to come together – especially here in City Hall. Every year, this serves as a special opportunity to thank specific Latino city employees to be recognized for their outstanding work – not only in the departments they work in, but also in their communities."
"Combined, these men and women have 73 years of experience here at City Hall. I am grateful for their commitment to our City."
This year’s event featured an art display by Colombian artist Francisco García. Traditional Latino food was catered by Montecristo Mexican Grill. The live music performance was by Gian Carlo Buscaglia.
Mayor Walsh recognized four Latino employees for their service as an employee of the City and for their exemplary work in the community.
This year's honorees were:
-
Antonio Rosario, Boston Centers for Youth and Families
-
Gloria Meneses, Boston Housing Authority
-
Niurka Pitts, Boston Public Health Commission
-
Cathy Garcia, Boston Public Works Department
Three Kings Day is celebrated on January 6th throughout Latin America, the Caribbean islands and by Latinos living in the United States. This day commemorates the biblical story of the Three Wise Men who followed the star to Bethlehem. They arrived bearing their treasured gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
This year’s event was made possible by the generosity the City of Boston Credit Union, the Mayor’s Office of New Bostonians, The Old Havana Cuban Restaurant in Jamaica Plain, and Delicias Dominicanas restaurant in Roslindale.
