Eugenia Smith, a long time Boston Housing Authority resident, has made an incredible impact on the lives of many other BHA residents throughout her time as a member of multiple tenant organizations. Currently the Task Force President at Bellflower Apartments, Eugenia found her passion for helping residents in 1978 when she joined one of BHA's first tenant task forces at Lenox Street Apartments.

Through the years, as Eugenia has moved to different BHA developments, including as West Broadway. In every community, Eugenia has made it a priority to become involved with the tenant groups wherever she was.
Leader the five-member board at Bellflower has been one of Eugenia’s most rewarding experiences.  Every month, the task force meets with the residents to discuss issues and concerns. The group also holds events, such as coffee hours, weekly Bingo nights, barbeques, and resident trips. Eugenia is there to make sure the whole community is involved. 

In an elderly public housing community, it is hard for some residents to attend all of the meetings and be around a large group of people. Eugenia is adamant that the whole community has a voice and is heard, so she makes it a priority to stay on top of community activities and spread word to the residents who could not attend. Before meetings, she makes sure that flyers go out to all residents so that they know what is being discussed. She also takes pride in having a personal relationship with her neighbors so that they feel comfortable coming to her with anything.

Eugenia Smith has dedicated many decades to helping her neighbors. Her favorite parts of her role is being available to the residents at all times, going out and find things that are happening in the community that everyone can get involved in, and making sure residents are accommodated with everything no matter what. She has long been a beacon of diligence in her community, and has set the example for residents and task force members to follow.
