Fifty people gathered to celebrate the latest class of graduates from the Charlestown Adult Education Program last Friday.
15 students were on hand to receive their diplomas and celebrate the next stage in their lives, including nine BHA residents. 21 students graduated from the program this year.
“People like to suggest that this is the easy route to get a diploma,” Charlestown Adult Education Director Lori D’Alleva said. “The truth is, the average student in this program is in their 20’s, with children, jobs and adult responsibilities. This is where you go when you’ve struggled, and decided not to give up.”
Students were eager to share their stories and experiences, and to celebrate the next stage in their lives. Four students are going to Benjamin Franklin Institute, five will be attending Bunker Hill Community College, one student is enrolled at Roxbury Community College, and one student is applying for his Commercial Driver’s License.
We want to congratulate every student who earned their diploma, and to thank the dedicated team of educators at the Bunker Hill Public Housing Development’s Charlestown Adult Education program, who continue to change lives.
