Energy Secure Homes Pilot Program
The BHA, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Area Planning Council (MAPC) and Alternatives for Community Environment (ACE), is launching a new no-cost pilot program to support energy efficient upgrades for Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher households.
What is the BHA Energy Secure Homes Pilot Program?
The BHA Energy Secure Homes Pilot Program provides financial incentives to Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) landlords and tenants for implementing no-cost energy efficiency and clean energy upgrades in their units. The BHA, in conjunction with MAPC and ACE, will help landlords enroll their buildings in the Mass Save Income-Eligible Program to complete energy efficiency and clean energy upgrades. Retrofits completed through Mass Save are expected to come at no cost to landlords and have the potential to reduce utility cost, deliver environmental, health, and other quality of life benefits and amenities to tenants, improve safety, and help BHA and the City of Boston in achieving its climate goals. The Pilot Program aims to enroll up to 10 buildings via lottery and will provide incentives to landlords and their tenants who complete the no-cost Mass Save-supported retrofits.
The Energy Secure Homes Pilot Program is designed to help us meet the following goals:
- Improve the health and well-being of Housing Choice Voucher holding tenants.
- Support landlords in securing no-cost retrofits for their properties to be greener, safer, and healthier.
- Develop a longer-term program that will be open to all landlords and provide additional financial compensation for completing qualified energy retrofits.
- Advance city and state climate goals.
