Boston – Beginning in December, the Prudential Tower will once again shine bright with the help of local community organizations. Boston Housing Authority will flip the switch to light up Boston on Sunday, December 10th as part of Boston’s annual 31 Nights of Light program. The top of Prudential Tower will beam green in support of Boston Housing Authority’s Volunteer Interpreters Program.

Boston Housing Authority provides stable, quality affordable housing to low and moderate income persons and families. We believe in delivering these services with integrity and mutual accountability, and creating living environments which serve as catalysts for the transformation from dependency to economic self-sufficiency.

The 31 Nights of Light program was introduced in 2009 to celebrate local Boston-area organizations and draw attention to the great work they do in Boston and beyond. Utilizing a state-of-the-art LED lighting system, the 51^st floor of the Prudential Tower will change color daily to honor its 29 community partners.

Piloted in Fall 2010 by the Language Access Division and now a part of the Center for Community Engagement and Civil Rights (CCECR), the Volunteer Interpreters Program (VIP) is a capacity building initiative which recruits and trains bilingual or multilingual individuals to serve as housing interpreters. VIP has been instrumental in providing interpretation and translation services in 30 languages for our clients at thousands of BHA appointments, community meetings, hearings, and telephone inquiries, ensuring that families who are Limited English speakers have access to BHA’s services.
