General Description:

ABOUT THE JOB:
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Safety Supervisor and/or the Senior Safety Sergeant, the Safety Officer will have the responsibility of protecting life and property on the properties of the Boston Housing Authority. The position calls for uniformed unarmed personnel, mainly in the elderly developments
.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains foot and/or vehicular patrols as directed through either written or verbal orders of supervisors or as specified in Developments Special Conditions. 

  • Enforces all safety and security regulations of the Department. 

  • Prepares incident and all other reports required. 

  • Operates communication base station. 

  • Assists the Boston Police, Fire, and BHA Public Safety Departments personnel in security and safety problems related to BHA properties. 

  • Identify criminal activity and when appropriate, apprehend or obtain identifying information. 

  • Render emergency first aid where appropriate and summon help. 

  • Protect buildings under our jurisdiction, from vandalism, arson and theft and to protect the life and safety of all personnel who frequent these buildings. 

  • Report all existing and potential hazardous conditions to proper authorities. 

  • Performs other related duties as required.

     

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

High school diploma or GED is required. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Should have no criminal record that would prevent their being licensed or appointed a Special Police Officer. The ability to understand and carry out orders with a degree of self-discipline. Previous security experience desired but not essential. Ownership of automobile desired but not essential. Must be able to work any hours, day or night, weekends and holidays included. Personal knowledge of public housing conditions is a major plus. Demonstrated proficiency or accomplishments may be acceptable in lieu of a portion of education and experience.
